2 Indonesian officials resign in corruption scandal
JAKARTA, Indonesia – Two Indonesian officials tendered their resignation Thursday because of the alleged corruption scandal.
National Police Detective Chief Commanding Gen. Susno Duadji and Deputy Attorney Gen. Abdul Hakim Ritonga were forced to resign because of public fury in the alleged plot to undermine the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
Susno and Ritonga’s names were mentioned in a wiretap phone conversation aired on live television this week on plot to frame the KPK deputy chiefs Chandra Hamzah and Bibit Samad Rianto were uncovered.
The KPK plays a key role to Indonesia’s effort to eradicate the widespread corruption since the demise of the late dictator Suharto in 1998.
