Chirac to face corruption trial
Former French President Jacques Chirac has been ordered by the French magistrate to stand on trial on embezzlement charges making him as the first former French president to face a corruption trial.
Chirac, 76 was a former mayor of Paris from 1977 to 1995 and served as President of France for 12 years. He is being charged of misuse of public funds and having used his position to include 21 “fictitious” employees in the city payroll.
Through out his term as president and head of state, he is protected and enjoys constitutional immunity of all the alleged accusations and corruption scandals.
After his retirement to public office, he devoted his time for charitable foundation and writing his memoirs.
