Clinton arrives in RP
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrived in the Philippines at about 1 p.m., Thursday (local time), under rigid security at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
In the midst of ongoing rallies in opposition to the Visiting Force Agreement (VFA), Clinton is expected to reaffirm strong ties between the US and RP.
She will also meet with Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita and Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo and then attend the opening of a book fair at the Malanday National High School in Marikina City.
Clinton will give a courtesy call to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in Malacañang, where the US official will be awarded with the Order of Sikatuna, a national honor conferred to attaché and foreign officials who have notably played a part in strengthening their country’s ties to the Philippines.
Clinton, who will end her day with a dinner hosted by Mrs. Arroyo, will stay in the country for only 24 hours later to fly to other Asian countries.
