Clinton proves US-RP strong relations
MANILA, PHILIPPINES – “I promise you that the United States of America will always be a friend to the people of the Philippines.” US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton proved that the USA will always be a friend of the Philippines.
She announced an additional $5 million in new relief funds for the Philippines aside the $14 million in assistance given in times of the country’s recovery from calamity
Clinton also opened a book fair that would provide 50,000 books donated by an American foundation to Filipino students. Malanday National High School is a lucky one to receive books and the school supplies, including 200 chairs, 20 electric fans and a copier from Clinton.
While in the country, she talked about the peace process in Mindanao, matters about the Visiting forces Agreement (VFA), 2010 elections and government accountability.
She also honored World War II soldiers at the American Cemetery in Taguig City.
Clinton had a 30-minute meeting with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and received the Order of Sikatuna with a dinner later, the night before she left the country.
Clinton arrived in the country at 1 p.m. on Thursday and left the country before 1 p.m. on Friday to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in Singapore.
