taichi1.347160809_stdRest in the assurance that God is still in charge no matter how hard the wind blows.

The dog get sick, your husband is out of town, the kids have to be taken to the doctor, the baby-sitter can’t come and the car won’t start. We have to admit that sometimes when the storm is raging, our hearts cry out, “ God, why me?”. But remember that the storm will pass, and God will be there to welcome you at the beginning of another day. He will never leave you in the lurch.

The Muppets rocks Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody

Posted by Ryan Reyes On November - 29 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody gained popularity and has been the core of some memorable salutes in entertainment history. But here comes the time, the Muppets to shine with their own Rhapsody Parody:

It went viral on the moment it was first posted in the Internet millions of hits.

The Muppet Show featured guests like Elton John, Alice Cooper, Deborah Harry, Leo Sayer, Arlo Guthrie, Paul Simon, and Johnny Cash, and that show’s house band, Dr. Teeth & The Electric Mayhem, always rocked pretty hard.

Sesame Street has featured impressive musical guests as disparate as Ray Charles, Feist, R.E.M., Sheryl Crow, Stevie Wonder, the Dixie Chicks, the Goo Goo Dolls, Billy Joel, LL Cool J, and Little Richard.

The Muppets even once delightfully starred in Weezer’s “Keep Fishin’” video.

Woods unavailable for crash interview—police

Posted by Ryan Reyes On November - 29 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Woods Accident GolfAgence France-Presse

MIAMI, Florida, United States—Tiger Woods wasn’t available Saturday to be interviewed by officers trying to determine the cause of a one-car crash that left the golf superstar with facial cuts, the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) said.

FHP officials said they were informed by Woods’s agent that the golfer and his wife, Elin, were not available, even though officers who had visited Woods’s home on Friday had been asked to come back on Saturday.

“Troopers were asked to return tomorrow (November 29th),” a statement from the FHP said. “This is still an ongoing crash investigation.”

Woods crashed his Cadillac SUV near his $2-million home at 2:25 a.m. on Friday.

He was briefly hospitalized and released, suffering cuts to both lips.

The FHP has said they are investigating the incident as a traffic crash, although the celebrity news website TMZ.com reported that a dispute between Woods and his wife, former Swedish model Elin Nordegren, was at the center of the accident.

By the website’s account, Nordegren confronted her husband about reports that he was having an affair with a New York club hostess.

Nordegren told police she heard the crash and then used a golf club to break the back window of the SUV to help her husband.

The FHP declined to be drawn into speculation on what their investigation into the cause of the crash—which will include a review of the 911 emergency call—would find.

Woods, a 14-time major winner, was scheduled to play his last tournament of the year at the Chevron World Challenge at Thousand Oaks, California, next week. He hosts the event annual to benefit his charitable foundation.

He was scheduled to hold a news conference Tuesday in California, and that schedule had not been revised as of Saturday afternoon.

According to Forbes business magazine, Woods is the first athlete to have broken through the billion-dollar earnings mark.

At age 25, he became the first man to win the US Open, the British Open, the USPGA, and the Masters on a roll to make him the first simultaneous holder of all four major championship titles at the same time.

Earlier this month, Woods landed the Australian Masters but had returned home for a break prior to next week’s tournament.

In addition to his Australian victory, Woods won six US PGA Tour titles this year and helped the United States win the Presidents Cup team match play title.

Although he failed to win a major, he has said he was pleased with the season which followed an eight-month layoff as he recovered from reconstructive surgery on his left knee.

The Woods have two children, Sam Alexis, born in 2007, and Charlie Axel, born earlier this year.

Indonesia minister says immorality brings disasters

Posted by Ryan Reyes On November - 29 - 2009 1 COMMENT

indonesiaquakeIndonesians’ immorality is main reason for series of natural calamities to happen said a government minister.

Communication and Information Minister Tifatul Sembiring pointed out many television programmes and pornographic DVDs in local market intoxicated people’s morals, therefore, bringing natural disasters to occur.

His remarks came as he lectured a prayer gathering on Friday in Padang, Sumatra, which was hit by a powerful earthquake in late September.

However, his comments received harsh criticism especially on social networking site Twitter.

Why focus on public immorality when there was so much within the government, one respondent reportedly asked.

More than 1,000 people died in the Padang earthquake, which tumbled hundreds of buildings in the city.

Padang lies to the south of Aceh province, which was devastated in the December 2004 Asian tsunami.

Indonesia lies across a series of geological fault-lines and is prone to frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

National government put ARMM under control

Posted by Ryan Reyes On November - 28 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

maguindanaoMANILA, Philippines – President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo put the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) under the hand of the national government yesterday and also gave Interior Secretary Ronaldo Puno power to suspend any civilian and police officials in the region.

Press Secretary Cerge Remonde confirmed Puno was authorized to relieve or suspend any official and appoint replacements to guarantee the sustained operation of the regional government.

“I would like to inform you that the President authorized Secretary Puno, or has given Secretary Puno or has delegated to Secretary Puno, full powers of supervision to the ARMM, which means he is now free to carry out his own recommendations,” he said.

Remonde said Puno is also empowered to suspend all officials of Maguindanao province and relieve all police and military commanders in the area.

He also added that Puno can appoint officers-in-charge to posts that would be vacated by any suspension order.

Meanwhile, Puno said the national government’s supervision of the ARMM would remain in force until the Maguindanao massacre is completely resolved and peace and order has returned to the region.

He would decide in the coming days whether to suspend all ARMM officials based on Mrs. Arroyo’s order to get to the bottom of Monday’s killing of 57 people, he added.

Puno said his instructions from Mrs. Arroyo are to ensure that investigators gather evidence to pin down the perpetrators of the gruesome murders.

Mrs. Arroyo issued the order to Puno following a closed-door meeting with him, Remonde, acting Defense Secretary Norberto Gonzales, Justice Secretary Agnes Devanadera, Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita, and other security officials in Malacañang.

Police are preparing for the possible spillover of violence in Maguindanao to other ARMM provinces and nearby regions.

“We are on full alert because of the possible spillover of violence, and considering Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao and Cotabato City, which is also under my area, have been placed under state of emergency,” said Central Mindanao Police director Chief Superintendent Josefino Cataluña.

There are fears that there would be another bloodbath, this time triggered by the clan war between the Ampatuans, who are accused of being behind the massacre, and the Mangudadatus.

Lawyer Adel Tamano, a Muslim and a Nacionalista Party senatorial aspirant, urged President Arroyo to suspend the Ampatuans’ posts in the ARMM and said if the government fails to act on the killings, it would send a message to “these monsters” that they can get away with it.

“Although they (suspects) are not yet guilty… the prime suspect is an Ampatuan, maybe it would be better for the governor himself and his family members who occupy key provincial posts to go on leave to ensure that the investigation will be impartial.

“This massacre happened because we allowed people to maintain private armies and to have loose firearms,” he said.

Gates were closed at the NBI headquarters and security personnel were checking everyone and every vehicle entering the compound where Datu Unsay Mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr. is confined.

National Bureau of Investigation Director Nestor Mantaring denied yesterday Ampatuan is being secured by private security guards with long firearms at the NBI detention center in Manila. No unauthorized personnel are allowed to enter Ampatuan’s cell, he added. Ampatuan is being treated as a high-risk prisoner, Mantaring said.

Swine flu mutations spreading in Europe – WHO

Posted by Ryan Reyes On November - 28 - 2009 1 COMMENT

swinefluAgence France-Presse

PARIS – Swine flu virus mutations are spreading in Europe, French health officials said Friday as the World Health Organization reported a leap in deaths from the disease by more than 1,000 in a week.

Two patients who were infected by a mutation that was also recently detected in Norway have died in France, the government’s Health Surveillance Institute (InVS) said in a statement.

“This mutation could increase the ability of the virus to affect the respiratory tracts and, in particular, the lung tissue,” said a statement from “For one of these patients, this mutation was accompanied by another mutation known to confer resistance to oseltamivir,” it added, referring to the main drug being used to treat swine flu, under the brand name Tamiflu.

The case was the first drug-resistant strain found in France among the 1,200 strains experts have analyzed here, the InVS said, adding that “the effectiveness of vaccines currently available is not being questioned.”

The two patients were not related and had been hospitalized in two different cities in France, it said.

The WHO said Friday the death toll had reached at least 7,826 worldwide since the A(H1N1) flu virus was first uncovered in April.

The number of deaths reported to the UN health agency showed the biggest rise in the Americas, where 5,360 deaths have now been recorded compared to 4,806 a week ago.

But Europe also posted a substantial increase percentage-wise with at least 650 fatalities now reported, representing a surge of 300 deaths or 85 percent from data posted a week ago.

The WHO said Thursday it was investigating reports of mutations in the virus, after half a dozen countries recorded such cases.

“The question is whether these mutations again suggest that there is a fundamental change going on in viruses out there — whether there’s a turn for the worse in terms of severity,” said Keiji Fukuda, WHO’s special adviser on pandemic influenza.

“The answer right now is that we are not sure,” he added following reports from China, Japan, Norway, Ukraine and the United States.

He noted, however, that mutations are common in influenza viruses, and “if every mutation is reported out there it would be like reporting changes in the weather.”

“What we’re trying to do when we see reports of mutations is to identify if these mutations are leading to any kinds of changes in the clinical picture — do they cause more severe or less severe disease?

“Also we’re trying to see if these viruses are increasing out there as that would suggest a change in epidemiology,” he added.

China said earlier Thursday that it had discovered eight people with mutated versions of swine flu while Norway reported last week that it had detected one case.

Fukuda also said that the UN health agency was looking into Tamiflu-resistant cases reported in Britain and the United States but noted they concerned people who are already undergoing treatment for other diseases or who have underlying health issues.

The health agency was therefore maintaining its assessment that Tamiflu, produced by Swiss drugmaker Roche, remained “effective” as a treatment for swine flu, but that “we do have to be vigilant in these very susceptible people.”

Woods injured in car crash but released from hospital

Woods Accident GolfAgence France-Presse

MIAMI – Golf superstar Tiger Woods was taken to hospital after being injured in a car accident in Florida and has since been released, according to Windermere Mayor Gary Bruhn.

Media reports, citing the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), said Woods crashed into a fire hydrant and then drove into a tree after leaving his property in the Isleworth community in Windermere, a suburb of Orlando.

“I understand that there was some facial lacerations, he was taken to Health Central Hospital, where he was treated and I’m told that he was released,” Bruhn told CNN.

The 33-year-old Woods was transported to a local hospital in Ocoee in “serious condition,” the FHP was quoted as saying.

Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, however told the CNBC network that the golfer “was fine.”

The Orlando Sentinel said the hospital would not confirm or deny that Woods had been admitted.

Woods, who was driving a 2009 black Cadillac Escalade, suffered facial lacerations in the accident which took place at about 2:30 a.m., the Orlando television station WESH 2 reported.

The station said the crash was still under investigation and charges could be pending.
