Posted by AJ Migriño On December - 27 - 2009

_46997533_philippine_batangas_271209MANILA, Philippines – Six people are confirmed dead after ferry MV Baleno 9 sank off the coast of Isla Verde in Batangas yesterday evening.

Sixty two have been rescued while 20 others are still missing, Estela Felipa Aceron, Vice Governor of Oriental Mindoro said.

Authorities were still trying to know the cause why the boat sank. According to Lieutenant Commander Armand Balilo of Coast Guard in an interview in DZMM, some survivors said that water seeped into the ferry’s bow, causing the ferry to tilt on the side and eventually sink.

Batangas police, Coast Guard and Besta Shipping lines personnel were conducting search and rescue operations until now.
