ON THE TWENTY-FIFTH HOUR
Heart pumping…
Feet running…
Breath catching…
You ran to the stairs, to the halls then you came rushing into the room. You took a deep breath then you opened up your mouth.
“Sir, I’m sorry I-”
“LATE!!! Get out!”
Your professor’s voice echoed through the wall, reverberating in every corner.
Have you been faced in a scene like this? Many people indeed experienced being late.
Late. Someone or something coming after the due time given. Someone or something delayed beyond the expected time. Late in meetings, late in classes, late in dates, what more? Late at arriving home, late at submitting requirements, late at preparing reports, can we add chocolate to make it sweeter?
What if God was late creating everything?
What if the Sun is late in rising or setting?
What if President Barack Obama is late signing the economic stimulus bill?
What if I was late making this article and posting it on FTChronicle?
What if you are LATE reading this?
Wake up, people, wake up! Do not let yourself being devoured by the tardiness monster. It lies on YOUR hands to defeat time, literally.
TIME MANAGEMENT and SELF COMMITMENT, my friend, is your elixir. Time is gold yet people spent it unwisely. You must save time like when you are saving money. You must manage time like on how you will handle a mega corporation. You must spend time like you’ve invested it for a good cause.
But then you must be self committed. You might say, oh it’s okay, I cannot be late for the next time. You keep on chanting those words but then those words would just be blown by the wind, LATE are YOU.
Wake up early. Do your requirements on time, do not beat the deadline. Be time-sentient. Wear a watch. Look for a clock. Plan for the whole week, make an organizer. Problems with memory? Take memory enhancers, it’s out in the market. Nah, just exercise your mind.
I’ll give an advice to you, my dear friend, from the words of the great poet William Shakespeare “it’s better to be three hours too soon than one minute too late”. But au contraire, making it on time is the great guidance. If you come too early, you’ve wasted your time. If you come too late, you’ve wasted others’ time.
Other more problems? Wake up! Maybe the problem is YOU. Reinvent yourself. Be a new you. Or maybe just minimize your chocolate intake, hehe…
Bear these things in your mind before it’s too late (get it? Before it’s too late? Get it? Oh c’mon. it’s the punch line). Don’t be LATE telling this to others.
