Dell Releases the World’s Thinnest Laptop:Adamo XPS

Dell officially launched the highest-end version of its designer ultra portable laptop, the Adamo XPS.

Adamo XPS is a stunning laptop whose design provides a unique experience. With the swipe of a finger, the keyboard appears from under the display as the system is open. The feature set challenged engineers to build the latest technology into a compact space, including:

· 4GB* DDR3 800 memory;

· Intel Core 2 Duo (1.4 GHz) ultra-low voltage processor;

· Thin 128GB SSD for faster, cooler, quieter and more durable storage than traditional hard drives;

· A 13.4-inch high-definition display.

The attention to detail is apparent in the black, jewelry box-like packaging that is as striking as the laptop itself. A tug on a cloth loop reveals the Adamo XPS and assorted accessories that accompany the system. The Adamo XPS was recently recognized as the hottest Windows 7 product by leading technology analyst Rob Enderle with Digital Trends.

Adamo, derived from the Latin word meaning “to fall in love,” is a flagship in a line of products created to disrupt the personal computing space with the combination of new design aesthetics, personalization choices and sought-after technologies.

The system is championed as the thinnest notebook ever and measures just 0.39 inches at its thickest point. Dell accomplishes the feat by tucking most of the computer components into the display section and relying on a unique hinge that opens underneath and acts as a built-in prop . In spite of its slimness, the notebook still has a removable battery, two USB ports and DisplayPort output but also weighs slightly more than its MacBook Air rival at 3.2 pounds.

When fully opened, the keyboard sits at maybe a 20-degree angle. It’s an unusual setup, but one that provides a more ergonomic typing experience than the average flat laptop keyboard. We also liked the keyboard’s metal keys and the reasonably large touchpad.

Dell says it expects to “begin taking orders and shipping the Adamo XPS in time for the holidays.” The ultra thin luxury laptop starts at $1,799.

Castoven: microwave television

Posted by Tom Nava On December - 12 - 2009 2 COMMENTS

It’s a novel concept for a microwave called the Castoven that integrates a 10-inch LCD display to the front of the device, in place of the grille that normally allows you to see you food spin round like a record.

That screen is connected to a computer that records how long you set the timer for and searches for a random YouTube video around the same length. It’ll then play it while you’re waiting for your dinner to cook, alleviating your boredom.

Samsung revealed its first ‘bada’ phone

Posted by Tom Nava On December - 4 - 2009 2 COMMENTS

first-samsung-bada-phone-revealed-0An image of what’s said to be the first device from Samsung to feature its newly-announced “bada” mobile phone platform has hit the Web.

Coming hours after the bada announcement, and with bada phones not due until the first half of 2010 (the SDK has not yet been released) it’s more likely this is a fan mock-up.

Google Maps Navigation penetrates Android 1.6

Posted by Tom Nava On December - 4 - 2009 3 COMMENTS

google-maps-navigation-android-16-0Google has announced that all handsets running Android 1.6 will now be able to get Google Maps Navigation for free.

The news opens up the free GPS software beyond the Android 2.0 operating system and currently the only handset available, the Droid by Motorola.

The new release, which aims to take on services from TomTom, Garmin and Navigon will, as long as you have a data connection, let you route your way around the US using the same Google Maps functionality, however, with a more traditional style GPS experience.

The release also includes the new Layers feature, which lets you overlay geographical information on the map. View My Maps, transit lines, Wikipedia articles about places, and more says Google.

Apple Magic Mouse: first ever Multi-touch

Posted by Tom Nava On November - 25 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Gotta catch a mouse! Multi-Touch technology introduced a remarkably better way to interact with your portable devices — all using gesture. From iPhone then came iPod touch, then MacBook Pro, now Apple reached another milestone by bringing gestures to the desktop with a mouse that’s unlike anything ever before. It’s called Magic Mouse. It’s the world’s first Multi-Touch mouse.

In the case of the Magic Mouse, it is probably the biggest advance during the last years in this type of device that interact with the computer, and ironically, this advance is not a consequence of adding more buttons, scroll wheels, or some very original designs by “crazy” designers that are often intended to be used with the right hand only.

There is no visible control, wheels or similar things in the Magic Mouse, which has a simplified design, a reduced size, and a quite improved quality with beautiful finishes.

Magic Mouse connects wirelessly to your Mac via Bluetooth, so there’s no wire or separate adapter to worry about. Pair Magic Mouse with your Bluetooth-enabled Mac and enjoy a reliable and secure connection up to 33 feet away. When you combine Magic Mouse with the Apple Wireless Keyboard, you create a workspace free of annoying cables.

13

The top side is a smooth surface made of a shiny clear acrylic plastic and the bottom side is a brushed aluminum base with two plastic rails that allows users to work in almost any surface. The mouse also comes with Laser-Tracking Engine (this is not a regular optical mouse because it doesn’t emit visible light), battery compartment (two AA batteries, which are included when the user buys this product) and a power switch

Magic Mouse uses powerful laser tracking that’s far more sensitive and responsive on more surfaces than traditional optical tracking. That means it tracks with precision on nearly every surface — whether it’s a table at your favorite cafe or the desk in your home office — without the need for a mousepad.
