Tiger Woods pulls out of World Challenge

Posted by Ryan Reyes On December - 1 - 2009

tiger-woods-tourGolf superstar Tiger Woods withdrew in the Chevron World Challenge due to injuries suffered in the one-car accident early Friday morning near his Florida home, he said in a statement on his website.

Woods also said that he will take a break this year and will be back on 2010, the next PGA tour event which he won four times.

Although the World Challenge is not part of the PGA Tour, it showcases 12 of the world’s best golf players and a part of the proceeds will help raise money for Woods’ charitable foundation. It will begin on Thursday, December 3 with a sum of $5.75 million as prizes.

Woods also called off a press conference scheduled for Tuesday at the tournament, ending hopes he might use it to offer more details about the crash and seek to end a flurry of media speculation.

Woods also missed the 2008 tournament while recovering from knee surgery.

Tiger Woods sure does talk an excellent game in his media meeting regarding becoming a lot more respectful to the game of golf, but his activities spoke considerably louder than his words when he skipped the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Woods would have earned so much good will by participating in this tournament. Arnie would have succesfully done nearly anything that he might have for helping present Tiger in the best light, yet rather Tiger decides to write off one of the legends of the sport to do his individual thing. Best of luck with the Masters, Mr Woods. Congratulations to Ernie Els, and also I am hoping you will do very well in Augusta.
